What’s the most bored a person can get before they want to roll over and die???
Manic reading has not been helping. Last finished Nadeem Aslam’s sumptuous if utterly depressing Maps for Lost Lovers. It made me sick for moongh dhal. Boredom has also meant I am... ummm... cooking, which I am not bad at really, just too lazy to do. Craving for patlican has meant my last few meals have all been aubergine based. And I am also making my own masla tea, with aniseed, cinnamon, cardamom, (no ginger, thank you), lots of milk and sugar.
It hasn’t helped much with the insomnia (I am up reading till 4 am most days and I then I wake up at 8 or 9 in the morning again). I haven’t even had much motivation in getting back to Turkish, that language will drive me mad soon, but have pulled a few all nighters studying. I need to pull my socks up. Also for some reason the Turkish embassy has taken to calling me up and telling me about their monthly happenings and inviting me to attend. Strange, in a good way, I suppose.
Current read is Zadie Smith’s White Teeth (I have read her other books...why I didn’t pick up this one, which is really her best I feel, is one of those inexplicable things). It is hilariously funny...only I wish I didn’t feel like one of her loser characters. Sheesh. End whiny pointless post.

Falstaff will hate this, but try reading any Henry James book - lovely sleep-inducer.
on a more serious note, some yoga meditation might help.
and how can you not have mint in that tea?
gosh, even if I skip one hour of my 8 hours of sleep i feel sleep deprived, maybe u shud try Benadryl :) for sometime.
I did njoy White Teeth, though i thought it could have been a few pages less.
How about being jobless (possibly for an entire year) and having your folks breathe down your neck constantly because 'you take the car out too often, and petrol isn't cheap!'
:(
Darned oil controlled world.
can't beleive you get bored too. I thought you were busy making new travel plans?
Sniff.
My such carefree "childhood" days filled with 5 a.m readings, stranger waking up times and non-existent appetite have all ended.
Now I go through my day making endless copies and avoiding pointless small talk.
I envy you. You should really cherish these moments.
??!: I restarted yoga actually. As a esult I have pain in muscles I had forgotten even existed :( And I like mint tea plain not mixed with other spices!
Chimera: Know what you mean about White Teeth. The editing could have been tighter.
Miss**: Umm...I know that feeling. I have been told off for roaming around too much :P
Alok: Do not mock. Travel plans - sure. Just no money to travel anymore :(
nitin: grass is greener and all that.
how I wish I could stay up till 4 reading!
A new apartment and late hours in office ensure a disciplined life...and i think u know me enough to feel that I HATE it!
I wnt impromptu plans in the middle of the night, staying up late reading, partying, chatting anything...
not falling asleep at 11...so not my scene!
But (gulp), am doing it!
Maybe I'm missing something, but what's so bad about reading into the wee hours and then getting only 4-5 hours of sleep? Sounds like a description of my life, actually, and I'm pretty happy with it. You have a bunch of good books, masala tea and invites from the Turkish embassy. A pack of blessings lights upon thy back, etc., etc.
Chandni: I feel your pain...I dont think I would be able to pull of the 9 to 5 routine for very long honestly. But, hey, you get paid.
Falstaff: I know, this is an ideal situation and all. Its just that I have job interviews and applications hanging over my head and they are the greatest kill joy ever.
oh, just go get smashed.
I am learning Vietnamese now... Before I learnt Thai and even knowing Thai does not help much. Believe me Turkish is much easier. At least you don't have to worry about the pronounciation of words.
Be well,
Ali
Try what I do, I sleep for about 3 hours a night for three weeks, then the third friday afternoon I take a 'nap' and I'm up bright and fresh monday morning :D
